Anopportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to becomea valued member of our secretarial team in the Department of CellularPathology as part of the Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre (CPGC). This is afull time, permanent post, however job share may be considered.
Thepost holder will provide a comprehensive administrative/secretarial serviceto support the CPGC, working as part of a team in a dynamic and fast pacedenvironment.
Dutiesinclude booking in of cases, test ordering, and transcription of results formolecular testing.
Youmust be able to work flexibly and be able to adapt to the changing demandswithin the team, and communicate sensitively and effectively with a widerange of people.
Youwill require strong IT skills together with highly developed interpersonal,excellent organisation skills and the ability to deal with a number ofsensitive issues in a confidential manner.
Excellentkeyboard, typing and data entry skills, coupled with a commitment to accuracyare essential for this post. Knowledge of medical terminology and previousclerical experience would be advantageous.
Theability to work on your own initiative and as an integral part of a team isessential. Working in a busy environment you should be able to meet deadlineswhilst showing great attention to detail.
Thepost holder will be part of a team of secretaries providing administrativeand secretarial support to the Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre (CPGC).
Thepost holder will contribute to the direct and indirect delivery of moleculartesting and whole-genome sequencing service across the West Yorkshire andHarrogate Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) region.
Aspart of the CPGC at Leeds, they will play a key role in the delivery of therequesting and reporting workflows for molecular testing.
Mainduties include:
Bookingin of cases
Transcribinggenomics reports into integrated reports for clinical sign-out by consultanthistopathologists
Answeringemail/telephone enquiries.
Othergeneral office duties as required.
Thepost holder will need to communicate sensitively and effectively with a widerange of people including colleagues, medical staff and the wider teamsunderstanding the imperative need for confidentiality and discretion.
Thedepartment provides Histopathology, Non Gynae Cytology, Andrology, Muscle,Nerve, Immunohistochemistry, Molecular, and Mortuary services for LeedsTeaching Hospitals.
Weare a regional Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre and a well equipped andinnovative department. We process circa 60,000 surgical cases, 3000 andrologycases, 2,000 autopsy cases and 6000 non-gynaecological cytology cases perannum. As a training hospital we serveto expand the knowledge and skills of all staff.

Therole will involve general secretarial duties which include the typing ofcorrespondence, reports, test requesting, and dealing with email/telephoneenquiries to facilitate the delivery of molecular testing and whole-genomesequencing service across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Association ofAcute Trusts (WYAAT) region. The role will require working within multiple specialitygroups within Histopathology.
Aspart of the CPGC at Leeds, you will play a key role in the delivery of therequesting and reporting workflows for molecular testing within the regionthrough a range of routine tasks.
Youwill be expected to communicate with consultants and other colleagues viatelephone, email and face to face.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Itis essential that the post holder:
Holds OCR/RSA Level 2 (orequivalent experience) in word processing or text processing
Has experience of using wordprocessing software and presentation software
Is reliable and has a professionalattitude
Has excellent written and oralcommunication skills
Has an excellent telephone manner
Is able to work flexibly
Itis desirable that the post holder:
Has significant experience ofworking in an office
Has five GCSEs or equivalent,including maths and English
Can use spreadsheet and databasesoftware
Has a knowledge of the NHSenvironment
Holds the European Computer DrivingLicence
Can use his/her initiative whendealing with problems or queries.
COREKNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
Understanding of the need forconfidentiality and discretion

Understanding of the NHS and theorganisation would be desirable
PRINCIPALDUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Thepostholder will provide a high quality secretarial/administrative serviceincluding specialist word processing skills.
Communicateeffectively with the consultants and the team, lab staff and other Truststaff to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated and consistent CPGC service.
Creatingand maintaining appropriate record systems.
Thepost holder will contribute to the direct and indirect delivery of moleculartesting and whole-genome sequencing service across the West Yorkshire andHarrogate Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) region.
Aspart of the CPGC at Leeds, you will play a key role in the delivery of therequesting and reporting workflows for molecular testing.
Bookingin of molecular cases on departmental computer system, including referredcases from external sources.
Transcribinggenomics reports into integrated reports for clinical sign-out by Consultanthistopathologists
Providetraining and support to new staff.
Respondto written and telephone enquiries in a polite and helpful manner,prioritising messages and taking responsibility for any follow up action.
Processingall associated paperwork for molecular work requests.
Otherduties as applicable
Thepost-holder may be expected to deputise in a supervisory capacity as and whenrequired.
Thislist is not exhaustive and the changing needs of the service from time totime may require the development of other appropriate tasks and skills. Thesewill be fully discussed with the post holder in advance of theirimplementation.
