Job description

Band 4 – Registered Dental Nurse.

1st post for 17 hours/week
2nd post for 24 hours/week

The Maxillofacial Department based in Outpatients at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and outgoing Registered Dental Nurse to join our specialist team.

We are an extremely hard-working, committed, friendly team ensuring the highest quality of care is delivered to our patients.

Applicants must have a flexible approach to working hours to meet the needs of our service users. We provide specialist care and services across our specialty in and around Stockport and surrounding boroughs. Our clinics currently run Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm, with additional weekends if needed to meet service requirements.

There are lots of new and exciting changes taking place across the specialty, and staff recruited will have the opportunity to work off-site to develop and learn new skills with the existing team. Please note that this may not be in the Borough of Stockport.

A positive learning approach to new skills is mandatory, as we partake in Venepuncture, Orthodontic, Nurse-Led Clinics, and Theatre scrubbing/assisting.

Opportunities for personal and professional development within the trust, including full support for your CPD requirements from the senior dental nurse and management.

Services are currently partly based in Hyde until the new outpatient building is ready for operation in Summer 2025.

Main Duties:

  1. Working in Outpatient Oral Surgery clinics, Orthodontics, Nurse-Led clinics, scrubbing in Main Theatres, and assisting in our own Operating theatre, ensuring high-quality care is met in line with GDC Regulations and trust policies.
  2. Carrying out clerical tasks as required within the role, such as orthodontic model boxes and uploading patient photographs.
  3. Working independently within the dental department and theatre areas.
  4. Being a member of the multi-disciplinary team providing specialist practical skills and theoretical knowledge across a wide range of Orthodontic and Maxillofacial procedures in accordance with BDA and BOS recommendations.
  5. Being accountable for your dental nurse registration and ensuring you complete all relevant CPD in line with GDC recommendations.
  6. Demonstrating excellent communication skills with patients, careers, support services, and clinical colleagues, particularly when dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances.
  7. Rotating within the Maxillofacial Department, which includes Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Theatres, and Consultant Led Nurse-Led Clinics.
  8. Consultant Led Nurse-Led Clinics including taking alginate impressions, clinical photographs, obtaining consent from patients, and providing Oral Health advice.

With new and exciting changes taking place across the Division, new starters will have the opportunity to work off-site to develop and learn new skills.

We believe that the best organizations are those that reflect the communities they serve. We are therefore seeking to improve the diversity of our workforce to make it truly representative of our local population.

We actively encourage applications irrespective of race, age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion or belief, marriage & civil partnership, or pregnancy or maternity. Recognizing those communities that are underrepresented within our workforce, we would particularly welcome applications from you.

We recognize that flexible working is important. We take requests for flexible working seriously, consider any request we receive, and try to work with you to explore if your request may fit with the needs of the service.

The salary for the role is only one part of the excellent package of benefits we offer:
  1. Between 27-33 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  2. NHS pension scheme membership.
  3. Salary sacrifice schemes for lease cars, home electronics, and more.
  4. NHS Staff discounts.
  5. Cycle to work scheme.
  6. Salary finance – for loans, savings, budget planning, and tips on managing debt.
  7. Stockport Credit Union – for local financial advice.

Please check the attached job description and person specification.
