Job summary

Essex County Council, supporting Tendring District Council, seeks a Democratic Services Officer to staff meetings, draft agendas and minutes, and provide professional advice. The role is on-site in Clacton-on-Sea, 37 hours per week, initially four weeks with possible extension, requiring evening attendance.

You will arrange and attend meetings, act as a primary representative for service areas, and maintain the Modern.Gov system as needed, while building relations with Councillors and officers.

Qualifications

• Experience in a customer-focused organisation is advantageous.
• Accurate and prompt document preparation.
• Drafting and collating reports.
• Minute taking.
• Previous Local Government experience or knowledge of Local Government functions and legislation.

Responsibilities

• Provide information and advice to Councillors and officers on procedures and the Council's Constitution.
• Provide administrative support to Council, Cabinet, Committees, Sub-Committees and Panels including: drafting reports and preparing agendas.
• Write reports and minutes for meetings and publish on the Council's website (within 5 working days).
• Attend meetings and ensure AV setup for public live stream and recorded records.
• Collaborate with Leadership Support Team and Elections Team as needed.
