You will lead the Democratic Services team, advise on governance, and service council committees, while developing the constitution and supporting member induction and training.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Democratic Services team, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
• Provide expert advice on governance and decision-making to the organisation.
• Oversee the servicing of the Council's committees and member working parties.
• Guide the maintenance and ongoing enhancement of the Council's constitution.
• Manage member support, including induction and ongoing training programmes.
• Deliver visible leadership and constructive challenge to enhance governance and committee functions.
• Ensure meetings comply with constitutional and statutory provisions.
• Collaborate on the annual governance cycle preparations including induction, member training, and scheduling of committees.
• Monitor team performance in line with statutory and procedural provisions.
• Prepare and present briefing papers, reports, and policy recommendations to members.
• Build effective working relationships and engage various stakeholders in the democratic process.
• Manage the Democratic Services team budget and oversee members' allowances reviews.
• Stay updated on local and national governance developments.
• Assist the team with meetings and other duties when necessary.
• Support election-related duties and provide assistance to the office of the Mayor.
• Conduct research on a range of topics to support Council operations.
