Powys County Council in Llandrindod Wells is seeking an Internal only Democratic and Scrutiny Support Officer to provide comprehensive and discreet support to the Chief Executive, Leader of the Council and committees. The role requires accurate minute taking, agenda management and liaison with chairs.

The post is 37 hours per week, fixed term to 31 October 2027, Salary Grade 8, and requires a Standard DBS check. Welsh or English applications welcomed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support to ensure the effective operation of the Council's Cabinet, Committees and Working Groups.
  • Oversee the collation of papers and sending out of agendas, taking accurate minutes during meetings, liaison with the Chair of the meeting on final minutes, distribution to Elected Members and communication of action points to all stakeholders and to monitor their implementation.
  • Ensure that agenda items and decisions are consistent with the Work Programme and advise the Chairman and Senior Officers on the appropriateness of items for the agenda.
  • Ensure compliance with the relevant legislation in administering meetings.
  • Work independently and on own initiative, referring more complex and politically sensitive issues to the line manager.
  • Provide information to Elected Members, the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and wider members of the Management Team, outside bodies and the public, both in person and by telephone, on a range of issues.
  • Take minutes and handle difficult situations and with complex and challenging matters with the public and members of the Council.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritise and meet high level deadlines.
  • Be organised, methodical and diligent with high personal standards.
  • Deal with a range of complex, politically sensitive issues with diplomacy, tact and professionalism.

Job description

To provide a comprehensive, discreet, high quality professional and reliable support service to the Chief Executive, Leader of the Council, Cabinet, Committees and Members to effectively manage their meetings in line with the Council's Constitution and Work Plans.

About the role:

This position has a requirement for a Standard DBS Check.
