Job summary

Joshua Robert Recruitment Limited is seeking a Deputy Care Manager for an elderly and dementia care setting in St Albans. You will support the Registered Manager, lead the care team, and deputise in the manager's absence to ensure safe, compassionate, and dignified care for residents.

You will oversee care planning, staff development, and quality standards, with a focus on dementia best practices and CQC readiness.

Qualifications

• Experience as a senior carer, team leader or deputy manager in elderly or dementia care.
• NVQ/RQF Level 3 in Health and Social Care is essential; Level 5 is desirable.
• Knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act (DoLS).
• Ability to plan, audit and manage medications.
• Warm, supportive leadership and clear communication.
• Calm under pressure and well organised.
• Passion for improving the lives of older people with dementia.

Responsibilities

• Support the Registered Manager day-to-day and deputise as needed.
• Lead, supervise and motivate care staff, including rotas, supervisions and training.
• Oversee care planning, risk assessments and reviews ensuring person-centred care.
• Promote best practice in dementia care with meaningful activities and positive behaviour support.
• Monitor medication management, audits and record-keeping.
• Help ensure CQC standards and inspection readiness.
• Build strong relationships with residents, families, GPs and other professionals.
• Handle safeguarding concerns, incidents and complaints following policy.
• Carry out pre-admission assessments and help new residents settle in.
• Occasionally work hands-on shifts leading by example.
