Job Description:

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Commercial Trading Underwriter to join our UK wide Delegated Authority/Schemes team.

As a Technical Underwriter in this team, you will be responsible for servicing brokers with delegated authority for specific commercial insurance schemes. This role involves being the main point of contact for referrals outside the broker’s delegated authority.

Working closely with brokers to assess referrals outside their delegated authority and maintaining a learning mentality, this role requires a proven commercial underwriter who can communicate clearly and succinctly.

This position is suited for an experienced Technical Underwriter from a broker or insurer background, passionate about developing their career and nurturing relationships for mutual benefit.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dealing daily with referrals outside brokers' Delegated Authority and providing clear rationale
  • Supporting Schemes Underwriting Lead and delivering initiatives to improve system performance
  • Maintaining knowledge of scheme governance and regulatory requirements related to delegation of underwriting authority
  • Training, developing, and mentoring less experienced colleagues
  • Continuously developing personal skills and capabilities

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in Commercial Motor and/or Commercial Property & Liability underwriting
  • Ability to handle complex risks and technical referrals, supporting team members
  • Confidence to lead broker discussions to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
