Job Title: Assistant Project Manager - Degree Apprentice (Level 6)

Location: Birmingham

Division: Urban - MMA

Reporting To: Project Manager

Purpose of the Role

As an Assistant Project Manager (Project Management Degree Level Apprenticeship), you will work on multidisciplinary, multi-million-pound projects, delivering key contracts from conception to completion, with real impact.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll develop your skills both on and off the job, working towards your Level 6 Project Management Degree and Membership with the Association of Project Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager or Delivery Manager in successfully delivering projects or contracts.
  • Learn fundamentals of project management, including budgets, cost management, and timely delivery while ensuring safety and quality.
  • Work closely with experienced Project Managers to understand successful project management practices.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with your team and clients.
  • Build your network and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrate resilience and adaptability to change.
  • Prioritize safety, health, and security, contributing to a safe project environment for passengers, staff, and the public.
  • Contribute to safety improvements and share ideas for innovation and creativity.
  • Learn, gain experience, and grow your career in Project Management with support from your Line Manager, team, and apprenticeship network.

Person Specification

  • Completed your A-Levels by July 2025.
  • Will have a driving license or will complete your driving test by August 2025.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends.
  • Interest and motivation to work in the Rail Industry and at Colas Rail.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively within a team.
