The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join Organon’s Analytical Laboratory team as an Apprentice Analyst at our world class manufacturing site in Cramlington, Northumberland. This is a key role testing and analysis of our (mainly tablet) products, ensuring that all testing performed at Cramlington meets the highest standards of quality and complies with both internal and external (Regulatory) requirements. You will work to the highest standards of quality and comply with both internal (Organon) and external (Regulatory) cGMP (Good Manufacturing Practice), cGLP (Good Laboratory Practice) requirement.

If you have an enthusiasm for science and using a variety of analytical techniques and would like to be part of a team ensuring the safe on time delivery of medicines to patients, where our collective efforts will make a significant impact on people’s health.

  • Our lab consists of multiple testing teams; Microbiology, Raw Materials, Packaging Components, as well as Finished products for both product release and stability.
  • You will be trained in a variety of analytical chemistry techniques, from traditional wet chemistry to FTIR and HPLC following our regulated methods and procedures.
  • You will develop troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, gaining problem-solving skills, so you will learn what to do when things don’t go according to plan.
  • In all aspects of your work you will be responsible to ensure that all areas work within Organon and regulatory and Safety Guidelines.
  • You will work to the highest standards of quality and comply with both internal (Organon) and external (Regulatory) cGMP, cGLP requirement.
  • You will be encouraged and supported in progressing continuous improvement ideas on a daily basis in the department, learning and applying skills in Lean methodology and problem-solving.

During the 4-year course of the apprenticeship you will complete the Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Science) Degree Apprenticeship, studying with Manchester Metropolitan University (blended learning) where you will obtain a BSc (Hons) Chemical Science degree as well as a Level 6 degree apprenticeship (Laboratory Scientist (Chemical Science) Degree Apprenticeship ¦ Manchester Metropolitan University (mmu.ac.uk).

The apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time university learning (on average 1 day/week). This will give you the opportunity to gain a qualification, just as you would if you went to university full-time, with the advantage of gaining relevant work-life skills and the excitement of helping to make an impact on people’s health, whilst taking your first steps towards a rewarding career.

You will be working with hazardous chemicals, so you will be trained in our safety systems, follow safe working practices, and wear Personal Protective Equipment.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

You will be over 18 and have achieved (or predicted to achieve) 104 UCAS points (equivalent of grades BCC) – with one being in Chemistry, ideally have Maths and English at grade C/4 or above and must be willing to travel to Manchester for up to 1 week stays during the apprenticeship for course delivery.

You will have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, be able to work in a team and be able to meet challenging deadlines. You will have good attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed instructions. You will have a practical approach to be able to support hands on with testing and using equipment.
