Job summary
Applied Data Science Partners is seeking a highly skilled Physicist to deliver advanced mathematical workstreams within UK Defence and Security programmes. You will lead collaborations with engineers and software teams, translating requirements into rigorous analytical frameworks and deploying production-ready models.

Qualifications
- A mathematics or quantitative degree with strong analytical ability.
- Experience leading technical delivery teams in defence/aerospace sectors.
- Practical use of Monte Carlo simulation and Bayesian inference.
- Familiarity with MoD assessment frameworks and UK DST landscape.
- Peer reviews of complex analytical code and proofs.
- Ability to present technical concepts to military stakeholders and civil servants.
- End-to-end model development from formulation to production deployment.
- Experience in secure environments with classified information handling.
- Proficiency in numerical methods, optimization, and statistics in defence.
- Knowledge of Python (NumPy/SciPy), FORTRAN, or Julia for modelling.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of advanced mathematical workstreams for UK Defence and Security.
- Develop and implement complex models to simulate battlefield scenarios and constraints.
- Translate military requirements into analytical frameworks and specs.
- Oversee bespoke algorithms for signal processing, sensor fusion, or autonomous decisions.
- Provide V&V of models to ensure mission-critical robustness.
- Lead OA projects for MoD stakeholders with evidence-based decisions.
- Collaborate with engineers to integrate kernels into synthetic environments.
- Apply stochastic modelling, game theory, or optimisation to defence problems.
- Mentor junior analysts and foster technical excellence.
- Author technical reports and peer-reviewed papers for thought leadership.
- Contribute to technical bid activities and complex proposals.
- Manage lifecycle of sensitive data and comply with security classifications.
- Represent the organisation at MoD and industry forums.
