Job Description:

Job Description:

The opportunity:

This role provides an exciting opportunity for a recently qualified STEM graduate, or postgraduate to gain experience in, and an understanding of, a world leading international Defence Contractor. The role will provide the successful candidate with an understanding of the various elements of the Systems/Software engineering life cycle, allowing them to develop a variety of System and Software engineering skills. In addition, working within a Leonardo team that is fully integrated with its MOD customer will provide an excellent opportunity to develop a range of interpersonal skills and see up-close how the MOD operates.

The type of project will you be working on:

  • Customer Integration: You will be a member of a project team within our larger group of Technical Analysts working in Central London. The group is integrated into a joint unit with government employees, members of the armed forces, and other contractors.
  • The Challenge: To provide end-to-end software driven processes that distribute timely MOD assessments to both national and international secure networks and UK front-line forces; and manage the sharing of mission data used by 5th generation military platforms.
  • Collaboration: You will be working in close liaison with teams in partner nations with the opportunity to contribute, influence, challenge and improve joint ways of working and knowledge.
  • Breadth: You will be working in a fast paced environment where the assessments can change rapidly as world events unfold and their publication and distribution needs to react accordingly. The preparation and supply of information to the new 5th generation platforms will become a significant element of this project in the future.

What you’ll do as a Defence Analytics Engineer:

  • In conjunction with the project team, conduct regular liaison with both MOD and the wider customer base to determine future requirements.
  • In conjunction with the project team, contribute to the delivery plans to meet requirements.
  • In conjunction with the principal software engineer, develop the solutions in line with the delivery plan.
  • Provide ad hoc support to MOD customers, often at short notice.
  • Use your developing experience and knowledge to propose and implement improvements to tools and processes.
  • Seek co-operative and collaborative approaches with our UK and multi-national partners, identifying best practice.
  • Take opportunities to travel for technical exchanges with our partners, in the UK and abroad.

What skills and experience do you require:

  • An understanding of object-oriented analysis and design, software development methodologies and standards.
  • Experience of Windows Application Development, preferably in C# using Visual Studio.
  • An understanding of Web Development Technologies and XML.
  • An understanding of Database Technologies, Database Design and SQL.
  • An appreciation of Requirements Capture and the production of delivery plans.
  • Interpersonal skills which allow you to work collaboratively and effectively within an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to problem solve and self-steer, work to deadlines as necessary, sometimes at short notice.
  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal, with audiences of differing technical backgrounds and seniority.
  • You will have, or be able to obtain, UK national security clearances appropriate for sensitive assessment work (see )

What will this role provide you with:

  • Candidates: This position is open to both recently qualified STEM graduates and postgraduates.
  • Impact: You will help ensure that MOD’s assessments are delivered in a timely manner to UK Defence partners and front-line forces.
  • Opportunity: To play a key role in the design, development and implementation of complex software solutions employing a broad range of IT technologies.
  • Teamwork: You will work with a diverse technical team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Delegation: It is expected that you will be able to steer tasks, processes and improvement initiatives.
