Overview

Job Title: Decontamination Technician

Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester

Salary: from £12.52 per hour to £17.75

Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time / Temporary

Reports To: Decontamination Services Manager / Theatre Support Lead

Job Purpose

To ensure the safe, effective, and timely decontamination, sterilisation, and preparation of reusable medical devices and surgical instruments in accordance with NHS standards and infection control protocols.

Responsibilities
  • Operate washer disinfectors, autoclaves, and other decontamination equipment.
  • Inspect, assemble, and package surgical instruments and medical devices.
  • Monitor and record sterilisation cycles and equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate records for traceability and compliance.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
  • Report equipment faults or safety concerns promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to meet operational needs.
  • Participate in audits and quality assurance activities.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and PPE requirements.
