Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a Decontamination Technician to join the Endoscopy team. You will clean, disinfect and prepare endoscopes and related equipment following training and competency assessment, ensuring safe patient care.

As part of a busy decontamination area, you will maintain stock levels, keep records, and work closely with colleagues to meet service requirements while upholding safety and infection prevention standards across both hospital sites.

Job description

We're looking for a new Decontamination Technician to join our team!

The successful candidate will be responsible for the decontamination of endoscopes and accessory equipment following appropriate training and competency assessment.

They will be responsible for all general housekeeping duties within the decontamination area of the Endoscopy unit, and be responsible for ensuring adequate stocks of consumables within the decontamination area are maintained to meet service requirements and that all equipment within the decontamination area is clean and in good working order.

Main duties of the job

• · Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and preparing endoscopes and related equipment so they are safe to use for patient care.
• · Help maintain a clean, tidy and well-organised decontamination area, ensuring all equipment is working correctly and supplies are stocked.
• · Follow national, local and Trust procedures to make sure high standards of safety, quality and infection prevention are maintained.
• · Report equipment faults, stock shortages and any issues that could affect the smooth running of the service.
• · Keep accurate records and use tracking systems to ensure all equipment can be traced and monitored correctly.
• · Work closely with colleagues across the Endoscopy Unit, supporting service improvements, training and the delivery of an efficient service across both hospital sites.

Qualifications

• GCSE in maths and English
• Evidence of CPD

Experiance and Knowledge

• Basic knowledge of endoscopy
• Basic knowledge around infection control
• Previous working knowledge within endoscopy
