Overview

Decontamination Technician Band 2 role at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. To assist in the reprocessing and distribution of medical and surgical reusable devices for use in patient care. After a qualifying period, the post holder will be expected to occasionally work on their own and participate in on-call rotas. The role requires working at all times in accordance with the department's Quality Management System. A flexible "can do" attitude is required to respond to major incidents. This role involves manual handling, exposure to blood and bodily fluids, and working with chemicals and machinery. There is no involvement with direct patient care.

Main duties

Decontamination Technician Band 2

  • Production duties: Accurately checking back into the department instruments that have been used in patient operations, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packing, sterilisation and distribution. This includes learning about the safety and operational aspects of machinery used in the department.
  • To comply with all reasonable requests by a Supervisor, Manager or designated Decontamination Technician.
  • To complete all paperwork correctly, legibly and on time; ensure accountability for each instrument/item on the Tray List / Pack Specification.
  • To inform a Supervisor when any raw material stocks are becoming low.
  • To actively participate in the appraisal system in accordance with Trust policy.

Availability to work evenings, Saturdays, Bank Holidays and on-call as part of a rota.

  • Understanding of systems and procedures within Sterile Services and Endoscopy Departments. Knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
