Job summary

Svitzer is seeking a Deckhand to join our UK Float Pool, working across our UK operations. You’ll live onboard, support the Master and crew, and help maintain high safety and vessel standards.

This role offers two‑week rotations, a strong safety culture and real hands-on maritime work on powerful vessels. Svitzer provides training, development and long-term career opportunities within a global company that values its people.

Qualifications

• Able Seaman Certification or Efficient Deckhand Certification with Navigational Watch Rating
• Harbour or terminal towage experience preferred, but not essential
• Valid ENG1 medical and STCW Basic Safety Training (minimum six months validity)
• Full UK Driving Licence
• Right to live and work in the UK
• Strong work ethic, good communication skills, and a professional attitude
• Willing to work captive onboard during two-week rotation

Responsibilities

• Working as part of a close-knit tug crew in busy, high-pressure environments
• Supporting the Master and officers to ensure safe, efficient operations
• Taking ownership of deck operations, safety routines and vessel standards
• Carrying out planned maintenance and keeping the vessel clean, safe and ready
• Getting involved in both deck and engine-room tasks when required
• Committing to ongoing training and professional development
