Job summary

North Star is recruiting a Deckhand for its ERRV/MRV fleet with a start date of 29th August 2026. This permanent role operates on a 4 weeks on/off rotation and offers a competitive salary, 28 days on/off, a contributory pension, and access to the Employee Assistance Programme.

Candidates must have at least 6 months relevant sea time and prior Deckhand experience, preferably on an ERRV vessel, plus the required STCW certificates listed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months relevant sea time.
• Have previously worked as a Deckhand, preferably on an ERRV vessel.
• Hold STCW certificates listed in the ad.
• Possess basic firefighting and safety awareness.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties as designated by watch keeping rota.
• Report to the Watch Keeping Officer on Watch for all duties.
• Be responsible to the Coxswain when engaged as Rescue Craft crew.
• Familiar with Breathing Apparatus use and basic firefighting.
• Be part of Emergency Response and Rescue Craft teams where applicable.
• Monitor safe working practices of shore contractors during maintenance.
• Promote and uphold the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
• Encourage inter-departmental communications.

Suitable candidates require to have a minimum of 6 months relevant sea time and have worked as a Deckhand previously, preferably on an ERRV vessel.

• STCW Personal Survival Techniques (A-VI/1-1)
• STCW Fire Fighting and Fire Prevention (A-VI/1-2)
• STCW Elementary First Aid (A-VI/1-3)
• STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (A-VI/1-4)
• Seafarers medical.

Preferred Certificates

• OPITO ITSO (or Medical Aid and Rescue Care)
• OPITO FRC Boatman

Deckhand Is Responsible For The Following

The execution of duties as designated by watch keeping rota. Deckhand is responsible to the Watch Keeping Officer on Watch for any / all duties.

• Responsible to the Coxswain when engaged as a Rescue Craft crew member.
• Deckhands should be familiar with the use of Breathing Apparatus and possess basic Fire Fighting Skills.
• Forming part of both the vessel's on board Emergency Response team, and Rescue Craft's whereby applicable.
• Monitoring safe working practices of shore contractors during periods of maintenance
• Actively promoting and progressing the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Policy.
• Actively promoting inter-departmental communications.
