Job summary

Neutreeno is seeking a Decarbonisation Model Engineer to identify and model technologies and process changes that cut emissions across complex industries. You will treat client operations as a single system and quantify energy use, costs and value pathways.

You will build scalable models, perform techno-economic analysis, and develop a carbon-pricing engine, while mentoring junior engineers in a fast-moving, EQ-valuing team at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership site.

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in Industrial, Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering.
• 3+ years of industry or research experience in techno-economic modelling.
• Proven system-level thinking for whole-system optimisation.
• Deep knowledge of energy and material efficiency in industry.
• Carbon accounting and LCA (GHG Protocol, ISO frameworks).
• Techno-economic costing (CAPEX/OPEX, MACCs) and carbon pricing.
• Expert Python for quantitative modelling with reproducibility and Git versioning.
• Familiarity with using LLMs and agentic-AI for decarbonisation roadmaps.
• Strong communication to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Build bottom-up models from first principles at scale.
• Quantify energy and material efficiency opportunities across processes.
• Develop techno-economic analysis behind each lever (CAPEX/OPEX, MACCs).
• Develop carbon pricing engine under various price scenarios.
• Identify where decarbonisation creates value and green premiums.
• Write clear, reproducible Python and mentor junior engineers.
