Job description

Deal Advisory Tax

At KPMG, our Values define who we are and the way we do business. As a leading professional services firm, we know that our strength and capability come from our people: their different perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds.

Deal Advisory Tax is a dynamic area of KPMG's Tax & Legal business. We have an inclusive leadership strategy and are making bold changes to our culture and work practices. Working in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment, we offer a broad range of career paths to ambitious individuals.

The Role

Deal Advisory Tax provides top-tier services to Corporate and Financial investors, focusing on four key markets: Corporates, Private Equity & Credit, Real Estate, and Energy & Infrastructure. Our team collaborates across these sectors to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Corporates: We support FTSE 100 and 250 companies and other UK-based corporations with strategic acquisitions, carve-outs, de-mergers, disposals, and joint ventures, both domestically and cross-border. Our clients span sectors like Consumer, Life Sciences, TMT, Industrials, ENR, and Banking & Insurance.
  • Asset Management: We work with Private Equity, Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, and Real Estate Funds, including large and mid-cap funds, as well as institutional investors like Sovereign Wealth Funds and Pension Funds. Our clients have diverse investment strategies across the UK, Europe, and globally, offering our team varied transaction experiences.

Our team advises on the full deal spectrum, including buy-side due diligence, structuring, sell-side vendor assistance, refinancing, and listings. Deal sizes range from £10m to over £10bn, involving various clients and transactions.

We assist clients in understanding and resolving tax issues, structuring transactions, modeling tax implications, and reflecting advice in legal documents, all aimed at maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often spans multiple countries and tax jurisdictions, requiring collaboration across the KPMG network.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and Directors on complex transactions, providing exceptional advice and service.
  • Support business development efforts through proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships within Deal Advisory.
  • Act as a primary KPMG contact for clients, legal advisors, and internal teams.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, foster collaboration, and pursue continuous learning.
  • Prepare and review detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax-related documents/data, highlight key issues, and communicate their commercial impact.
  • Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analyzing their input.
  • Stay updated on UK and OECD tax developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to Deal Advisory Tax thought leadership.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic, with a keen interest in transactions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Robust UK corporate tax knowledge and awareness of other tax and accounting matters.
  • Analytical, curious, and commercially minded.
  • Excellent project management skills, able to work in teams and take initiative.
  • Proactive in business development for long-term client and firm benefit.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills to develop and coach colleagues.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
