Job Description:

The Role

KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables), and Chemicals. As our clients face unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty, our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.

Our clients include some of the largest global ENR companies, both UK headquartered and inbound groups. Our work involves deal advisory support, international tax, and domestic tax advice. A successful candidate will have opportunities to work across these areas.

Our Deal Advisory Tax services include advisory across the deal spectrum, including company/sell-side vendor assistance, refinancing, due diligence, buy-side due diligence, and structuring. We help clients understand historical tax issues and structure transactions, focusing on maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often involves multiple countries, taxes, and work streams, requiring collaboration across the KPMG network.

In tax advisory, we support clients with business and fiscal changes, including new jurisdiction entry, development of new business areas, reorganizations, refinancing, leasing, windfall taxes, and global fiscal changes like BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and/or Directors on complex engagements to deliver exceptional advice and service.
  • Support in pursuing new opportunities, including proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Serve as a key KPMG contact for clients, legal advisers, and other teams to facilitate effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers, and engage in continuous learning.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax-related documents/data, highlight key issues, and communicate their commercial impact.
  • Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analyzing and challenging their input.
  • Stay updated on UK and OECD tax developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic, with a keen interest in transactions.
  • Previous experience in the ENR sector is advantageous, but candidates with strong interest and willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Solid UK corporate tax knowledge and awareness of other tax and accounting matters.
  • Analytical, curious, and commercially minded.
  • Good project management skills, able to work in a team and take initiative.
  • Ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Coaching skills and proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.

We support flexible working arrangements to help balance home and work demands. During the recruitment process, we can connect you with colleagues who work flexibly to share their experiences.
