The Role

KPMG’s Energy and Natural Resources (“ENR”) tax practice covers Oil and Gas, Mining, Power and Utilities (including renewables) and Chemicals. As our clients are facing unprecedented change with the energy transition and fiscal uncertainty, our ENR tax and legal practice is growing significantly.

Our clients include some of the largest global ENR companies, covering both UK headquartered and inbound groups. Our work involves deal advisory support, international tax, and domestic tax advice. A successful candidate will have opportunities to work across these areas.

Our Deal Advisory Tax services include advising on the entire deal spectrum, such as vendor assist, refinancing, due diligence, and structuring. We help clients understand historical tax issues and structure transactions, focusing on maximizing value throughout the investment cycle. Our work often involves multiple countries, taxes, and work streams, collaborating across the KPMG network.

In tax advisory, we support clients with business and fiscal changes, including new jurisdiction entry, developing new business areas, reorganizations, refinancing, leasing, and the impact of windfall taxes and global fiscal changes like BEPS 2.0 Pillar 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Partners and/or Directors on complex engagements to deliver high-quality advice and service.
  • Support in pursuing new opportunities, including proposals and pitches.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Act as a key KPMG contact for clients, legal advisers, and other teams to ensure effective delivery.
  • Coach and develop colleagues, collaborate with peers, and pursue continuous learning.
  • Prepare and oversee detailed technical advice on UK and international tax issues.
  • Analyze tax-related documents/data, highlight key issues, and communicate the commercial impact to clients.
  • Collaborate with UK and overseas tax specialists, critically analyzing their input.
  • Stay updated on UK and OECD tax developments.
  • Understand financial models from a tax perspective.
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives.

The Person

  • Qualified CTA, ACA/CA, or equivalent.
  • Enthusiastic with a strong interest in transactions.
  • Previous experience in the ENR sector is advantageous, but candidates with a keen interest and willingness to learn will be considered.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong UK corporate tax knowledge.
  • Good analytical skills, curious, and able to provide commercial advice.
  • Team player with good workload management.
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint.

While some client-facing professionals may travel or be based at client sites, our Deal Advisory Tax team supports flexible working arrangements to help balance work and home demands. We are happy to discuss individual needs and connect you with colleagues who work flexibly to share their experiences.
