Job summary

City of Edinburgh Council is seeking a Communication Support Worker to join the citywide Deaf Support Team. The role provides bespoke communication support to deaf children and young people in Early Years settings, schools and across the city, promoting inclusion and deaf awareness.

You will interpret, translate and use aligned communication methods (BSL, Sign-Supported English, lip-speaking, scribing) as needed, supporting staff to ensure pupils access learning. PVG checks are required.

Qualifications

• Applicants should hold Level 3/ SCQF level 6 in British Sign Language or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills/experience.
• Experience interpreting/translating information in BSL and/or other agreed communication methods.

Responsibilities

• Provide bespoke communication support to deaf children/young people in Early Years settings, schools and across the city.
• Work with Teachers of the Deaf and the wider team to identify, plan and provide effective communication support.
• Adapt learning materials and use ICT/tools to ensure deaf pupils access the curriculum.
