The DDaT team engage with, influence and work collaboratively with stakeholders from across Civilian, Military (Regular and Reserve members of the Armed Forces), and Veterans teams and user communities.

Job Description

As the Senior Technology Officer your main duties are to:

  • Provide Digital Leadership and support multiple communities and teams within the People Digital Landscape.
  • Network and communicate with stakeholders across the People enterprise, and actively seek opportunities to improve the Digital Strategy through technology and bolster alignment with the People Strategy and user needs.
  • Help to build strong, lasting, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and delivery teams to support successful delivery of the long-term digital strategy.
  • Supporting and guiding the People Function to make appropriate technology decisions by recommending reuse, sustainability, and scalability, to achieve value for money and reduce risk.
  • Conduct horizon scanning, identifying emerging trends and their potential impact and opportunity for the Function from a technology perspective.
  • Take a guiding role in the overall direction of technology and digital capabilities, aligning the development of the enterprise architecture vision with the digital strategy and subsequent road maps and implementation plans.
  • Ensure outcomes are aligned with People Vision and Functional Strategy by having a deep understanding of the current and future business models and making sure that solutions align, and remain aligned with business and user needs.
  • Act as a change champion and demonstrate the organisational values, such as openness, integrity and putting the enterprise first by authorising, developing and maintaining enterprise architecture artefacts to support robust analysis and decision making.
  • Work with senior stakeholders to identify and help manage inter-project dependencies and understand technical risks and issues.
  • Provide technical analysis input into business case development for new initiatives, as appropriate
  • Facilitate collaboration and lead effective communication with all stakeholders to support design, build and delivery to meet the user needs
  • Be responsive, innovative and seek out opportunities to effect creative change and constructively challenge and act as a critical friend to achieve solutions that are fit for purpose
  • Be a strong advocate for digital transformation
  • Advance the Technical Architecture community through the sharing of best practice and mentoring others

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.

External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
