Job summary

CBRE Group, Inc. is seeking a DC Mechanical Bias Shift Technician in London to manage inspection, operation and maintenance of data centre mechanical assets with emphasis on reliability and proactive maintenance.

You will support the Data Centre Shift Leader, coordinate with subcontractors, and maintain plant rooms to CBRE show-site standards. Minimum 5 years' data centre experience and Mechanical Authorised Person status required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in data centre or critical environment operations.
  • Mechanical Authorised Person status or equivalent certification.
  • HNC/HND in a relevant field or equivalent.
  • Strong communication and IT/report-writing skills.
  • Proactive in achieving operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated commitment and proven track record in relevant roles.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mechanical systems within the data centre competently and efficiently, including isolations/operations.
  • Follow client procedures and ensure SLAs are met with accurate reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Data Centre Shift Leader and sub-contractors to maintain equipment and safety standards.
  • Maintain plant rooms to CBRE show-site standards and assist with MOP/SOP updates.
  • Record completed work orders and support QHSE activities such as hazard reporting.
  • Attend training and participate in site handovers and client meetings as required.

Job description

DC Mechanical Bias Shift Technician

Location: London

Position Concept
  • Have a detailed understanding of critical facilities/data centre infrastructure (mechanical and electrical).
  • Responsible for the inspection, operation and maintenance of all associated assets within the data centre, with a primary focus on mechanical asset maintenance (planned, reactive and corrective).
  • Increase reliability through proactive maintenance standards and take ownership of all mechanical system issues within the facility.
  • Support the Data Centre Shift Leader in the overall delivery of day‑to‑day operations in line with CBRE/Client procedures.
Key Tasks
  • Operate all mechanical systems within the data centre competently and efficiently, including isolations/operations.
  • Consider business risk and energy use in all activities.
  • Recommend improvements and provide concise technical reports when required.
  • Work closely with the Data Centre Shift Leader to ensure that specialist sub‑contractor visits are conducted in line with approved SOPs/ MOP/PtW/ change requests.
  • Ensure subcontractor worksheets are signed off, that work quality is inspected and recommendations communicated.
  • Provide backup engineering relief cover for leave, training or other absences.
  • Accurately record completed work orders, including critical spares/stock items used.
  • Attend weekly team meetings, client meetings as requested and with CBRE management.
  • Review and prepare MOPs, SOPs and EOPs, undertake relevant EOP scenario drills.
  • Assist the Shift Leader in daily shift handover, noting significant events or activities.
  • Respond to all client requests within SLA.
  • Participate in QHSE compliance activities such as hazard/near‑miss reporting and toolbox talks.
  • Follow client CEM process and procedures for all relevant work orders.
  • Liaise with supply chain when ordering M&D components for remedial works.
  • Attend nominated training courses as identified by CBRE management in line with the DCS training matrix.
  • Undertake site‑specific technical assessments and skills gap analyses at intervals defined by CBRE/Client.
  • Maintain plant rooms under CBRE control to required show‑site standards.
  • Evaluate and elevate potential risks, assessing impact, causes and mitigation opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with QHSE policy and procedures.

Personal Specification
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in data centre or critical environment operations.
  • Mechanical Authorised Person
  • HNC/HND in a relevant field, an associated mechanical apprenticeship, or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff.
  • Proactive in achieving operational excellence.
  • Good IT and report‑writing skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and proven track record in relevant roles.
