Our Institutional Retirement division provides pension risk transfer (PRT) solutions for UK and US defined benefit (DB) schemes, and reinsurance solutions from our global hub in Bermuda. We work with companies, DB pension schemes, and their advisors to help them secure and protect scheme members’ retirement benefits.

Joining us means you’ll support customers’ financial security in retirement; help companies settle their pension liabilities; focus on growing their businesses; and enable long-term investment to back our pension promises.

Job Description

Do you have extensive experience in Defined Benefit pension administration? Are you a part or fully qualified pensions actuary? If so, we’re seeking a motivated and technically skilled individual to join our growing, multi-award-winning PRT business as a Calculation Consultant.

In this role, you will support the business by providing expertise on complex benefit structures, manual calculations, and being an SME on all ongoing and new schemes that come into our in-house Client Services team.

You will also effectively manage all aspects of claims work and help deliver excellent customer outcomes for our members. As well as being technically savvy, you will need to be a strong communicator, able to tailor your communication and simplify complex information for the intended audience.

This is a hybrid working opportunity, allowing you to split your week flexibly between home and our Glasgow office to promote work-life balance.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading in checking individual Defined Benefits quotations, designing & issuing non-standard communications to members and third-party intermediaries
  • Working with the Team Manager to ensure efficient administration and claims services in line with SLAs
  • Facilitating and leading activities like Valuations, Data Updates, Bulk Transfers, WULS, etc., liaising with other teams
  • Leading projects to improve processes and engaging in initiatives driven by legislative or system changes
  • Developing robust, reusable solutions adhering to quality, version control, and audit standards; working with IT to specify, build, test, and roll out solutions
  • Analyzing feedback to meet customer performance and service expectations, identifying failings, and implementing changes
  • Supporting team development through training and mentorship

  • Strong numeracy skills, comfortable with numbers, and capable of solving technical and business problems
  • Knowledge of legislation such as GDPR, Money Laundering, Complaints, Consumer Duty, Breach guidelines, ensuring compliance
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience in supporting and training team members
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Benefits include:

  • Participation in performance-related bonus plans and share schemes
  • Generous pension contributions, life assurance, private medical insurance
  • At least 25 days holiday plus public holidays, with options to buy/sell holidays
  • Family leave, electric car scheme, discounts, and modern workspace environments
