Job description

Job title: Day Shift Fitter/ Maintainer
Job location: Basingstoke
Pay Rate: £46,946 per year
Shifts: Days, flexible start and finish times
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Permanent


Client Summary:
Working for a global supplier for railway track maintenance and construction. With a broad range of high-quality equipment, cutting-edge technology, and worldwide support, covering virtually all major aspects of track maintenance and construction.


Position Summary:

  1. Carry out night shift fitter cover on the Mobile Maintenance Train.
  2. Maximise machine availability.
  3. To operate the OTM as required.
  4. To complete maintenance and breakdown repairs as required.

Technical Skills:

  1. Basic knowledge & understanding in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems & ability to work under instruction.
  2. IT literate including basic knowledge of Microsoft systems.
  3. Calibration & understanding of rail plant operating systems.
  4. Risk assessing.
  5. Role requirements.
  6. Full valid driving licence.
  7. Basic understanding of Health & Safety, relevant to the role.
  8. Written & verbal communication skills.
  9. Competent in current maintenance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Report any defects found on machine & carry out repairs within required competency level for the role, as directed.
  2. Undertake maintenance activities in accordance with the Vehicle Maintenance Instruction (VMI).
  3. Operate machine equipment on site as required by the planned work.
  4. Offer mechanical support during nightshift operation.

Person Specification:

  1. A strong mechanical background is required.
  2. People from HGV / large engine's / rolling stock assembly / REME / automation etc. backgrounds ideal.
  3. Understanding of engines / hydraulics / pneumatics in plant or heavy goods ideal.
  4. Good attitude and willing to work flexibly.
  5. NVQ Level 2 (or similar in engineering).
  6. Current PTS - Highly Desirable.

All tools and PPE will be provided.
