Job summary

Optima Recruitment Limited is seeking a Datacomms Technician to join our Enterprise Engineering team, supporting installation, configuration and maintenance of customer networks and communications systems. The role covers networking, IT systems, firewalls, VoIP and satellite communications across remote sites and vessels.

Based in Redhill, the position carries a £32,000 basic salary, 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, contributory pension and security clearance DV required or obtainable.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND or degree in IT, Electronics, Computer Science or relevant experience.
• TCP/IP, routing, switching and firewall knowledge.
• Experience troubleshooting complex network issues.
• IT systems and/or satellite communications experience.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and test customer networks and equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults.
• Support customer projects and network deployments.
• Configure and maintain routers, switches and firewalls.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• Attend customer sites for surveys, installations and technical support.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal teams.

About the Role

We are seeking a Datacomms Technician to join our Enterprise Engineering team, supporting the installation, configuration and maintenance of customer networks and communications systems. The role covers networking, IT systems, firewalls, VoIP and satellite communications, supporting customers across remote sites and vessels.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure and test customer networks and equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve complex technical faults.
• Support customer projects and network deployments.
• Configure and maintain routers, switches and firewalls.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation.
• Assist with product and technology testing.
• Attend customer sites for surveys, installations and technical support.
• Provide technical support to customers and internal teams.

Essential Skills & Experience

• HNC/HND or degree in IT, Electronics, Computer Science or relevant experience.
• TCP/IP, routing, switching and firewall knowledge.
• Experience troubleshooting complex network issues.
• IT systems and/or satellite communications.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive, flexible and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

• Cisco or Microsoft qualifications.
• Linux/Windows Server experience.
• VoIP/Asterisk experience.
• Perl or Bash scripting.
• Project delivery experience.
• Hardware/software integration experience.
