Job summary
NorthStandard Group seeks a Database Reliability Engineer for our Newcastle Office. You will ensure availability, reliability and performance of database systems, implementing monitoring, disaster recovery and automation across the technology stack.
Key tasks include tuning queries, scaling infrastructure, incident response, security hardening and maintainable runbooks. Ideal candidates have 5+ years in this area and strong ITIL familiarity.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
- Solid experience with SQL Server 2012–2025 and Azure managed instances.
- Proficient in T-SQL and scripting with PowerShell.
- Familiarity with ITIL/ITSM concepts and incident management.
Responsibilities
- Actively monitor database performance and set up alerts.
- Tune queries, optimise schema design and indexing.
- Forecast capacity and scale infrastructure for growth.
- Develop backup strategies and data restore procedures.
- Create automation scripts for patching, upgrades and data refreshes.
- Investigate and resolve database incidents promptly.
- Implement robust database security measures.
- Maintain architecture runbooks and technical docs.
- Collaborate with IT/platform teams and business units.
