Job description

Are you passionate about designing, developing, and managing robust data systems to support cutting-edge research? Available for a 6-12 month part time 2 day per week role?

Role: Database Manager (part time)

  • Location: Central Bristol
  • Salary: £23.50 per hour
  • Contract: 6 – 12 months
  • Hours: Part time 2 days per week (14 hours, flexible what days these are)

Our highly established Bristol based client is seeking an experienced Database Manager to lead the development and support of research data systems for a high-profile research programme focusing on cleft lip and palate outcomes.

You’ll play a key role in supporting a major funded grant, working alongside researchers, and ensuring that data systems meet regulatory requirements, research governance policies, and funder standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and maintain research data systems/databases
  • Import data from external sources
  • Write data management plans, Standard Operating Procedures, and user documentation
  • Ensure data quality and compliance through complex queries and updates
  • Manage information security and system availability
  • Design user interfaces, web applications, and data platforms for the research teams
  • Provide user support, training, and system troubleshooting
  • Create and maintain datasets for research analysis

What you’ll need:

  • Proven track record of designing, developing, and deploying web applications and databases
  • Strong skills in at least one programming language (e.g., Python)
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server) and data capture tools (e.g., REDCap)
  • Understanding of research governance, data protection, and security
  • Excellent communication, time management, and problem-solving skills
