Job summary

Tatton Recruitment is seeking a Database Manager contractor for a 6-month initial contract in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The role suits a candidate with Oracle Database Administration experience, ideally from a spacecraft operation or other mission-critical environment.

The successful candidate will perform maintenance, implement changes, and release databases while maintaining change control, backups and system housekeeping to ensure optimum performance.

Qualifications

• At least 1–2 years’ database administration or system support experience in a spacecraft operation or mission-critical environment.
• Experience with Oracle database administration and sustaining databases in a production setting.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science or related discipline preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Perform database maintenance and update activities.
• Implement database changes via change management procedures.
• Release new databases on system and maintain change control documents.
• Perform routine data and software backup and archiving.
• Maintain system and database performance through housekeeping tasks.
• Diagnose and rectify system failures and recover subsystems.

Job description

World Class Defence Organisation based in Chippenham, Wiltshire is currently looking to recruit a Database Manager subcontractor on an initial 6 month contract.

This role would be ideal for a candidate from a Database Manager, Oracle Database Administrator or Oracle DBA background, with experience supporting and maintaining databases and systems within a mission critical environment.

Hourly Rate: £41.71ph (Umbrella)

Contract Duration: 6 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)

Database Manager Job Description:

• Perform database maintenance and update activities
• Implement database changes as requested through change management procedures
• Release new databases on system
• Maintain database change control documentation
• Perform routine data and software backup and archiving activities
• Perform routine system maintenance and housekeeping activities to ensure optimum performance
• Diagnose and rectify system failures
• Re-start subsystems to recover from failures
• Support the Software Manager in system, software and database configuration management activities.

The candidate should have at least 1 – 2 years’ experience of database administration or system support within a spacecraft operation, or similar mission-critical systems environment. Key skill areas should include the following:
