This is an exciting opportunity to join the Development team at the British Museum and play an important role in supporting our fundraising activity.
We are recruiting two Database and Income Processing Officers to join our Development/Fundraising Strategy and Operations team. Both roles will play an important part in supporting our fundraising activity, helping ensure that information about our supporters, donations and income is accurately recorded, processed and maintained.
Working with fundraisers and colleagues across the Museum, you will use our fundraising CRM to manage supporter and financial data, process income and maintain excellent data quality. You will need to be comfortable managing competing priorities, responding to the needs of different stakeholders and taking a proactive approach to identifying improvements. You will ensure our records are accurate, compliant and reliable, enabling colleagues to build strong relationships with supporters and make effective use of fundraising data.
Although the roles share many of the same core responsibilities, one position will have a greater focus on Finance and income reconciliation, while the other will have a greater focus on Systems, data quality and CRM administration.
For the Finance-focused role, you will have stronger focus on income processing and financial reconciliation, ensuring information held within the Development CRM aligns with finance systems and banking information. You will also support Gift Aid claims, raise invoices for donors and corporate partners where required, and assist with audit activity.
For the Systems-focused role, you will have a stronger emphasis on CRM administration, data selections, data quality and system effectiveness. You will help identify and resolve database issues, support users, identify training needs and contribute to improvements in the CRM and associated processes.
You will have experience of working with databases or CRM systems in a fundraising environment, including data housekeeping and maintaining accurate records. Alongside this, you will have experience of income processing, including Gift Aid claims, and handling supporter and/or financial data. You'll have a good understanding of GDPR and data protection requirements, and understand the importance of accurate, well-maintained data in supporting successful fundraising and excellent supporter relationships.
You’ll be someone who can take ownership of your workload, make sensible decisions and priorities and remain responsive when requirements change. You'll be comfortable working in collaboration with fundraisers and others who support fundraising activity, as well as a range of internal stakeholders across the Museum, building positive relationships and helping to translate their requirements into effective database, data or income-processing solutions.
Knowledge of fundraising CRM systems such as Raiser's Edge would be an advantage, as would experience of running data quality checks, reports and taking action to improve or clean data. An understanding.

This physical and intellectual transformation includes large scale building and gallery transformation, new ways of connecting with audiences and different ways of working. As we look towards this exciting future, we remain guided by the words of our founder Hans Sloane - who dreamed of a museum connecting all arts and sciences, which would be accessible to everyone, everywhere.
At the British Museum, we believe our people are at the heart of everything we do and have designed a benefits package that goes beyond the ordinary. Our full list of benefits can be found here, but we've outlined some highlights below:
