They are seeking a Database & Analytics Engineer who is passionate about data architecture and turning complex datasets into meaningful insights. This role will involve working within their Risk team and play a key role in shaping how they manage, analyse, and visualise critical risk data.

In this role, you'll be the go-to expert for designing and maintaining our central Risk database, ensuring performance, data integrity, and scalability. You'll also create clear, compelling visualisation dashboards that inform business decisions and help the Risk team thrive.

What You'll Get

  • An opportunity to work in one of the most exciting and successful buy-side businesses in the City.
  • End-to-end ownership: Architect, build, optimize, and visualize—it’s all yours
  • Visible impact: Your insights and infrastructure support real-time, high-stakes decisions
  • Cross-functional exposure: Work closely with both technical teams and risk leaders
  • Opportunity to build, not just maintenance: They’re investing in scalable, modern systems.
  • An opportunity to join a strong team with a very high talent density presenting lots of opportunity for learning and development.
  • Incredible career progression opportunities with potential access to all areas of the business.
  • A market-leading compensation package including basic salary and annual bonus.
  • Benefits include a non-contributory pension, private healthcare, life assurance and 25 days annual leave.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with the Risk team to define and refine reporting needs.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain SQL queries and data views.
  • Resolve data integrity issues and ensure clean, reliable datasets.
  • Build and manage Tableau dashboards and analytics tools.
  • Oversee ETL processes for trades, positions, and pricing data.
  • Monitor and fine-tune database performance (query plans, indexing, etc.)
  • Maintain robust documentation and enforce best practices for security and maintenance.
  • Support external reporting by owning a subset of raw data feeds.

What You Bring:

  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • 5+ years of in-depth experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including advanced T-SQL development (queries, stored procedures, views, user-defined functions) and schema design.
  • Proficient in Python for automating database operations, developing data transformation scripts, and integrating with external systems via APIs or file-based workflows.
  • Expertise in relational database design, with a strong understanding of normalization, data integrity enforcement, and modelling for high-performance transactional and analytical workloads.
  • Demonstrated skill in performance tuning, including query plan analysis, indexing strategy design, partitioning, and resolving concurrency and locking issues.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL development, using tools like SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or custom Python-based ETL pipelines for large-scale data processing.
  • Working knowledge of BI tools, preferably Tableau, for creating parameterized dashboards, calculated fields, and integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
  • Committed to engineering best practices, including documentation, version control for database code, and secure handling of sensitive data.
