Job Summary:

You will be working within a team of DBAs supporting an extensive global SQL server database estate leveraging multiple Microsoft technologies. Your main duties will be to provide the full range of database administration services in a complex database environment and deliver excellent support for the SQL Server estate. You will also be working alongside development and infrastructure teams to support the delivery of projects, deployments, releases, incident resolution and consult in your areas of expertise. We are also early on in our cloud technology adoption which will present many opportunities for you going forwards.

This is a flexible, hybrid working role giving you the work life balance to work from home and from the office. You will be able to manage your own diary in regards to on-site office time in Leeds, but will be required to be on-site minimum 3 days.

The Ideal Person:

  • Strong experience administrating SQL Server 2014 – 2022
  • Experience in diagnosing issues with complex ETL processes (SSIS / batch scripts)
  • Practical experience of Windows Clustering, database mirroring, Availability Groups, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell
  • Experience in designing, implementing and supporting advanced, strategic database management systems.
  • Experience with Backup and Recovery using native backups and also RedGate SQL Backup
  • Excellent SQL Server database Performance Diagnostic skills (at both the SQL and OS levels).

It would also be a big bonus and appreciation if you have any experience with any of the following: Microsoft Azure, PowerShell dbatools, MySQL

What you will be doing:

  • Database Administration across multiple geographic regions such as Installation, Patching, Upgrade, Refresh, Backup and Recovery, Disaster Recovery, Failover, Replication, Capacity Planning, House Keeping, Monitoring and Performance/SQL Tuning, Database User & Security Management.
  • Incident, Service Request, Problem and Change Management.
  • Engage/Lead on multi team efforts related to deployments, releases, projects, incidents, and application support.
  • Establish a solid network of collaborative relationships & processes across teams and 3rd parties to support project work and incident resolution.
  • Check system health, respond to alerts & warnings and take preventive or corrective action as required.
  • Be part of an on-call rotation to resolve production infrastructure issues and incidents, including on an emergency basis.
  • Proactively make recommendations and provide input for system improvements, task automation and risk mitigation.
  • Plan, schedule, implement and support system changes within an ITIL framework.
  • Adopt other database technology skills within the team.
  • Author, contribute and collaborate on documentation for standards and process for the DBA team.
  • Adhere to IT Service Management (ITSM) and Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards
