Database Administrator - Watford, Hertfordshire
Join a global FinTech company on a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. The role involves hands-on technical work and collaboration with developers, architects, and DevOps teams to ensure data infrastructure aligns with business needs and industry standards.
Your Responsibilities
- Manage, configure, and optimize PostgreSQL databases on Amazon Aurora and Oracle databases on on-premise Exadata and AWS RDS.
- Support the migration of mission-critical databases from on-premise Exadata to AWS Aurora Postgres.
- Support workloads on other AWS database engines including MySQL, MariaDB, and SQL Server, ensuring compliance with PCI DSS and other regulations.
- Implement security best practices, including user management, encryption, and auditing.
- Design and implement database schemas, partitioning, and indexing strategies.
- Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and scalability of database systems.
- Configure monitoring and management tools to troubleshoot complex database issues in real time.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle in production environments.
- Experience migrating database workloads from Oracle to Postgres.
- Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, replication, clustering, and vacuum/MVCC processes.
- Proven skills in query optimization and performance tuning.
- Experience with AWS services like EC2, S3, VPC, and IAM.
- Knowledge of database security principles and compliance frameworks.
- Implementing backup and recovery strategies.
- Proficiency with infrastructure automation tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools like CloudWatch and Datadog.
- Experience with database replication tools such as AWS DMS and Goldengate.
- Collaborating with DevOps teams to integrate databases into CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code frameworks.
