Data Transformation - Strategy Lead

Role Background

We’re on a mission to create our next generation, cloud-based data ecosystem, to unlock the power of data, increase financial inclusion and deliver transformative, real-time, intelligent experiences to our customers.

Clients team is responsible for the data ecosystem, which covers the holistic data lifecycle, from the capture of high-quality customer data in real-time, the structuring, storage and processing of that data for insight, to the usage of the data in event driven applications and ML driven models that help our customers.

By the end of 2025 the client UK will have migrated to a fully Cloud based Technology ecosystem, as part of this we have a focus to ensure we are at the cutting edge of modern data capability and driving competitive advantage through the availability of streaming data, event-driven applications, ML, and innovative Data consumer platforms, to unlock value for our customers.

As “Data Transformation - Strategy Lead” you will be a highly experienced technical leader, accountable for driving innovation, thought leadership, and the shaping of data & engineering solutions across the Data team and wider Engineering organisation.

You will help lead the evolution of our Data strategy, with focus on ensuring we’re effectively:

• Streaming data for EDA (and embedding event modelling approaches)
• Leveraging ELT / Lakehouse practices and Technology to create Data Products to Democratise Data
• Embedding Data Management best practices (e.g. Data Registration, Lineage, Ontology etc.), to manage risk
• Laying the right data foundations to scale ML and AI within the Organisation
• Challenging our capabilities and structure, to ensure strong alignment with evolving Data skillsets within the market

With core accountability for the technical vision of our data ecosystem, servicing an organisation of over 400+ Engineers and ~200 Analysts (including Data Scientists, Data Analysts and Business Analysts), the role requires deep Data Technology & delivery experience, Strategic vision setting, C-Suite influence, & working experience of ML and GenAI.

Role Requirements

You are:

• An innovative and experienced Data Technology Strategist and Thought leader, who has driven multiple Data Transformations & Strategies at the Enterprise level, and led buy-in both with the C-Suite and across the Organisation
• Recognised as a leading expert in Data Technology, including ML and AI, with deep understanding of industry trends and how they can be leveraged by the business to inform our strategic direction
• A technology expert with hands-on expertise in Streaming Data, Event Driven Architectures, Data LakeHouse (inc. Data Products, ELT, Distributed Data Processing, Snowflake), Data Governance, Python, Spark, Java, AWS Cloud technologies (e.g. Serverless, DynamoDB etc.), and working experience of ML and GenAI
• Experienced in the full life cycle of software & data delivery, and have hands on experience in the creation of Enterprise scale Data Strategies, from inception into Technical Delivery, with hands on guidance of Engineering teams
• An exceptional presenter, with influencing ability, adept at producing compelling collateral for Senior Leadership and the Board (e.g. Business Cases, Strategy Options, Trade Offs)
• Able to set and deliver an aligned strategy for the data ecosystem in partnership with multiple partner functions across the Organisation (Product, Architecture, Business Teams, Data Science etc.)
• Experienced in creating Organisation operating models, bringing key elements of people, process & technology together to sustain & scale
• Able to shape the adoption of modern Data Technology and support the evolution of a Data driven culture, across a scaled, cross functional organisation
• Proficient in software development principles, patterns, and practices. Able to shape the adoption of modern Data engineering methodologies and tools, ensuring consistency and quality across teams
