Introduction to the team:

The TEaL (Traveler Engagement and Loyalty) Analytics team is part of the Traveler & Marketing Analytics organization. We tackle sophisticated analytical and business problems, focusing on statistics and data analytics. Your keen interest in marketing analytics will help us solve tough problems and drive positive change.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining methods and tools to optimize our marketing campaigns and capital allocation processes. This may include designing and analyzing A/B tests, developing testing methodologies to gather insights from marketing tests, or using machine learning techniques to predict returns where testing isn't feasible.

You will collaborate closely with other skilled data scientists across Expedia Group, partnering with digital marketing teams, as well as colleagues in Finance and Product.

We are seeking a hardworking, independent, and driven Data Scientist I to join the CRM Testing and Analytics team supporting the Traveler Engagement and Loyalty (TEaL) organization. You will provide insights that influence how we market, engage, and incentivize travelers. This is a great opportunity to join a fun, data-driven, customer-centric company.

As an individual contributor, you will partner with stakeholders and contribute to various CRM areas, including setting up and analyzing A/B tests, exploring traveler behavior, and developing new frameworks and methods for testing when traditional approaches aren't possible. You will also have opportunities to present to senior leadership within TEaL.

In this role, you will:
  • Apply your knowledge of SQL, Python, or R daily
  • Translate business problems into structured analytical questions and select appropriate methodologies
  • Continuously evaluate and improve current processes for optimization, simplification, and speed
  • Clearly communicate decision-making rationales, solutions, and frameworks to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Choose valid, effort-appropriate approaches, favoring iterative delivery to meet objectives
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects end-to-end

Experience and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Experience with SQL; experience with Python / PySpark / R for structuring, transforming, and visualizing large data sets is a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical and modeling techniques
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
  • Effective communication of complex concepts
  • Strong domain knowledge, business acumen, and critical reasoning skills
