National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of the UK's transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK's energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.

As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we're working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK's future demands for greener energy solutions.

We are currently recruiting for a Data Scientist in Interconnectors within the NGV portfolio. As a Data Scientist, you will be responsible for ensuring that the models within the business are underpinned by robust data, developing new models, and undertaking analysis to aid decision-making.

What you'll do
  • Manage and Maintain ML Pipelines: Take charge of our existing machine learning pipelines, ensuring seamless integration of data sources within a Snowflake Data Warehouse while managing a regression model that predicts auction clearing prices.
  • Enhance Existing Models: Dive into feature exploration and implement algorithm improvements to boost the performance and accuracy of our predictive models.
  • Develop New Models: Bring your creativity to the table by creating and implementing new machine learning models that support our strategic decision-making processes.
  • Analyse Model Outputs: Evaluate model outputs and share actionable insights with various stakeholders to enhance our hedging strategy.
  • Subject Matter Expert: Be the go-to Data Science expert for the team, providing guidance and answering questions related to data science and modelling.
  • Perform Complex Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis on multiple data sets to help determine the best auction strategies and volume allocations.
What you’ll need
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL is essential.
  • Familiarity with machine learning frameworks, particularly Scikit-Learn.
  • A Master's level qualification in Data Science or a related field, or equivalent evidence of analytical training.
  • Solid experience in data science methodologies, with a proven ability to use machine learning to provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to connect with stakeholders at all levels
  • Knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures, policies, regulations, market fundamentals is a plus.
  • A high level of independence and autonomy, with the ability to set your own direction and work with minimal guidance.
  • Organised and results-driven, with a demonstrable history of meeting deadlines.
  • Highly analytical, with the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights.
  • An excellent communicator, ready to collaborate with stakeholders across the organisation.
What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £48,374.00 - £57,000.00 - dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
