About the role

We apply best in breed enterprise grade practices to ensure the performance and supportability of our applications, while keeping obsessed with user experience and best practices in data communication. We apply Shiny application for appropriate use cases at the right data maturity level, and make sure organisations get the most out of Shiny.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties

1. Implement scalable and enterprise grade Shiny solutions and support end-to-end pipelines
2. Develop high quality R packages as needed either as Shiny apps or to facilitate the apps
3. Challenge solution design and methodology with innovative ideas
4. Apply software development discipline and methodology in project delivery
5. Communicate progress and challenges proactively with team and project leads
6. Present work to technical and non-technical audiences
7. Document apps, processes, logic, user guides as part of the solution delivery, and to share knowledge and upskill others

Other

1. Promote Ascent publicly via blogging, conferencing and professional social media
2. Share knowledge internally
3. Keep up to date with relevant technologies and current trends
4. Travel for work as required

Requirements

1. Highly fluent in R and Shiny, proficiency in Python is desirable
2. Highly confident in modular approach to development
3. Shiny app structure frameworks such as golem
4. Various front end frameworks R packages, Fluent UI is a plus
5. R package development
6. Advanced Shiny topics, including profiling, testing, performance tuning and deployment patterns
7. Daily use of git
8. CI/CD for testing and app deployment
9. Data visualisation techniques
10. Fluent in SQL for analysis; DBA experience is desirable

And nice to have these skills:

1. HTML / CSS
2. JavaScript (React.js or other frameworks)
3. Information Theory
4. Clinical trial data and use cases are desirable
5. Cloud platforms, Azure is desirable
6. Docker and other software development experience
7. Data architecture knowledge
8. API design and deployment
9. Big data (e.g. Spark)
10. NoSQL DB

Qualifications

1. 3+ years of a dedicated Shiny developer role
2. Right to work in the UK and/or EU
3. Azure Data Science Associate -Certificate is desirable
