Join Cox Automotive as a Data Scientist - Shape the Future of the European Automotive Market!

Are you a curious data enthusiast and problem solver eager to make a significant impact? Do you thrive on turning complex data into actionable insights that drive business decisions? If so, Cox Automotive Europe is looking for you!

About Us:

At Cox Automotive Europe, we harness the power of data to transform the way the world buys, sells, owns and uses vehicles. Our Data teams are on a mission to provide our clients and internal teams with unparalleled market insights, and decision assistant tools, using state-of-the-art technology to create solutions that make a difference.

The Role:

The Data Scientist will help the data science team introduce predictive analytics into Cox Automotive UK and the UK automotive industry more generally. Communicating with stakeholders to serve them predictions and recommendations that create business value, supported by the right data, the best technology, and a collaborative team.

Your work will be used by major car manufacturers, dealer groups, and leasing companies – and your colleagues and you will be directly responsible for solutions that inform our clients’ consequential financial decisions and should have prior experience shouldering such responsibility.

You should not be a team-of-one, as we all deliver work together, and interact with external clients on a weekly basis; communication skills are paramount for this role.

You need not be an expert in every flavour of predictive analytics but must be able to demonstrate the statistical knowledge necessary to explain and implement common models/algorithms. The data science team works primarily by writing code, so yours should be good enough to lift our overall level of capability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and help implement our predictive analytics strategy that will provide actionable insights to our business and our clients to power informed decisions.
  • Manage your own day-to-day data science work, in collaboration with other data scientists and the wider Data Solutions team.
  • Developing algorithms, and then maintaining, implementing, monitoring and versioning them on the appropriate platforms.
  • With the data engineering team, optimally prepare data for analysis, including modelling, transforming, manipulating, cleansing and managing.
  • Working collaboratively with the BI analysts and data engineers, you will integrate the data into the data exploration and analysis tools used within the company, manipulating and transforming the data as required.
  • Looking out for new technology, techniques and tools that will enable us to develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms more quickly and efficiently and sharing this internally and externally where appropriate.
  • Troubleshooting when data issues arise, as the Data Solutions team provides business-critical information to our clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist the Lead Data Scientist to evangelise the benefits of data science around the business, helping develop internal trainings and lunch and learns.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong communication skills. You need to be a data geek who can translate the work of the team into terms that business stakeholders understand.
  • Experience working in a fast-moving organisation.
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and manage your workload in accordance with project deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the commercial impact of their activities
  • Provable knowledge of at least one of the following languages or equivalents: Python, R, Scala, Java
  • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as scikit-learn, pandas, R, Weka; excellence in more than one of these is highly desirable
  • Good understanding of SQL and NoSQL (plus) database technologies; understanding of big data technologies: Hadoop, Spark (plus)
  • Good knowledge of statistics: hypothesis testing, confidence intervals and A/B tests
  • Ability to demonstrate good understanding of statistical models/machine learning algorithms

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a dynamic team that is driving innovation in the automotive industry.
  • Opportunities to work on cutting-edge projects and technologies
  • A collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • Enjoy opportunities for professional growth and development.
  • Collaborate on impactful projects that shape industry and business decisions.

If you’re ready to drive change with data and be at the forefront of automotive market insights, apply now to join Cox Automotive as a Data Scientist!
