Job Title: Data Scientist (Modelling & Insight)


Location: Manchester (hybrid working)


Role Overview


Markerstudy Group is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join a fast-growing company developing ambitious solutions across various insurance lines by leveraging extensive data assets and state-of-the-art processing capabilities.


As a Data Scientist, you will use your advanced analytical skills to influence insurer panel performance, ensuring our broking arm maintains a competitive edge through data-driven strategies and analytics.


  • Deliver outstanding and actionable customer insights
  • Provide insights and support the development of data products that shape Markerstudy's strategic roadmaps and customer propositions
  • Support the delivery, maintenance, and ongoing support of the Data Insight and Enrichment integration strategy across the group
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance overall company performance

Your ideas and solutions will enable improvements to products, pricing, and processes, giving Markerstudy a critical advantage in the competitive insurance market.


As part of your career development in Data Science, you will further advance a wide range of modern statistical, machine learning, and data science methods. These skills will be applied to various business problems to add demonstrable commercial value.


Key Responsibilities


  • Lead high-impact analytics and modeling projects supporting strategic decision-making
  • Identify and deliver innovative, data-led opportunities that drive measurable business impact
  • Act as a subject matter expert in analytics and data science, providing technical guidance
  • Coach and mentor junior analysts, reviewing code and outputs for quality and consistency
  • Maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards
  • Support cross-functional initiatives such as the Trading Transformation Programme as a technical expert
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across pricing, marketing, and insurer relations to embed insights into business processes
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations regarding customer data, competition law, and relevant legislation

Key Skills and Experience


  • Proven experience in Data Science or Analytics, ideally within insurance or financial services
  • Strong academic background in a numerical discipline (e.g., BSc Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science)
  • Proficiency in statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., logistic regression, clustering, GBMs) and their business applications
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with Python and/or R
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to translate complex data into actionable insights
  • Experience reviewing work of junior analysts
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and proactively share insights
  • Collaborative mindset, sharing findings, experience, and advice with the team
  • Resilience and independence in project delivery
  • Proactive in sharing insights, results, and identifying risks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Desirable


  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Operational Research)
  • Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, MS Fabric)
  • Familiarity with MLOps practices and version control tools (e.g., Git)
  • Experience deploying and maintaining ML models in production environments
  • Experience mentoring junior analysts and fostering continuous learning and innovation
