Job Title: Data Scientist (Modelling & Insight)

Role Overview
Markerstudy Group is looking for an experienced Data Scientist to join a fast-growing company developing ambitious solutions across various insurance lines by leveraging extensive data assets and state-of-the-art processing capabilities.
As a Data Scientist, you will use your advanced analytical skills to influence insurer panel performance, ensuring our broking arm maintains a competitive edge through data-driven strategies and analytics.
- Deliver outstanding and actionable customer insights
- Provide insights and support the development of data products that shape Markerstudy's strategic roadmaps and customer propositions
- Support the delivery, maintenance, and ongoing support of the Data Insight and Enrichment integration strategy across the group
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance overall company performance

Key Responsibilities
- Lead high-impact analytics and modeling projects supporting strategic decision-making
- Identify and deliver innovative, data-led opportunities that drive measurable business impact
- Act as a subject matter expert in analytics and data science, providing technical guidance
- Coach and mentor junior analysts, reviewing code and outputs for quality and consistency
- Maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory standards
- Support cross-functional initiatives such as the Trading Transformation Programme as a technical expert
- Collaborate with stakeholders across pricing, marketing, and insurer relations to embed insights into business processes
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations regarding customer data, competition law, and relevant legislation
Key Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in Data Science or Analytics, ideally within insurance or financial services
- Strong academic background in a numerical discipline (e.g., BSc Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science)
- Proficiency in statistical and machine learning techniques (e.g., logistic regression, clustering, GBMs) and their business applications
- Advanced SQL skills and experience with Python and/or R
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills to translate complex data into actionable insights
- Experience reviewing work of junior analysts
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and proactively share insights
- Collaborative mindset, sharing findings, experience, and advice with the team
- Resilience and independence in project delivery
- Proactive in sharing insights, results, and identifying risks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Operational Research)
- Experience with modern data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, MS Fabric)
- Familiarity with MLOps practices and version control tools (e.g., Git)
- Experience deploying and maintaining ML models in production environments
- Experience mentoring junior analysts and fostering continuous learning and innovation
