Job description

We know how companies can unlock potential through effective risk management. Our clients rely on us to craft strategies to quantify, mitigate, and transfer risk, taking advantage of our specialist industry experience and unparalleled market know-how. The result is a new way of embracing risk that drives superior results.

The goal of the Alternative Risk Transfer Solutions team is to design and deliver tailored risk financing solutions that respond to the needs and strategy of large and sophisticated clients. These solutions will help clients to de-risk their business and improve their profitability, financial stability and capital efficiency, by more effectively managing or transferring risks for which traditional insurance markets do not respond appropriately

ART Solutions is part of Risk & Analytics, a division of Corporate Risk & Broking. R&A is a global team of more than 200 people. The ART Solutions team is a global team of 15 colleagues located in London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong.

The London team’s main focus is in structuring and placing parametric programmes, most typically related to weather or natural perils.

The Role Job Summary

Working in a small team you will be researching the availability and functionality of data sets that can be used in the development of new parametric solutions to address client needs. Such data might include satellite images, reanalysis model output, or station observations of perils such as tropical cyclones or wildfires. You should be comfortable analysing data with Python, R, GitHub, and using APIs. The role will involve supporting both our London team and our global teams.

You will need to have exceptionally strong coding skills, data analytics, and the ability to clearly articulate complex concepts to colleagues and clients.

The role will include, to a lesser degree, client liaison, business development, solution structuring, and liaison with technical teams of partner insurers, reinsurers and other risk carriers.

Qualifications
  • BSc degree (or equivalent) in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.

Ideal

  • Previous experience with working on problems related natural hazards.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the insurance or financial industry, or further related academic experience.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python or R.
  • Proficiency in using GitHub for version control and collaboration.
  • Inquisitive, adaptable and able to work independently.
  • Excellent communications skills (both verbally and written).
  • The ability to break down a project and develop code to solve complicated problems without a known solution.

Ideal

  • Previous experience working in an insurance or financial services environment.
  • Strong data analytics and quantitative skills.
  • An appreciation of how to apply statistical methods to real data (e.g. data cleaning, correlation analysis, Monte Carlo modelling).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
