CANDIDATE PROFILE

We’re seeking experienced Data Protection Officers based in the European Union to support our continued growth and EU expansion. The role requires a proven track record in data protection, a strong compliance focus, excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to influence and support positive change within an organisation.

Successful candidates will excel at managing a diverse client portfolio, skilfully prioritising tasks, handling conflicting demands with diplomacy, and upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism. Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work within deadlines are also essential, as is the ability to work independently while actively supporting the growth and development of our wider team.

Given our central business location and internationally distributed client base, the role also requires fluency in both written and spoken English, as well as at least one other widely spoken European language i.e German, French or Spanish.

The role combines remote work with occasional on-site client visits, which may include travel and occasional overnight stays to support full working days. There is also the requirement for twice yearly visits to the UK for company team days and social events. Only candidates able to meet these travel requirements should apply. All travel expenses will be covered or reimbursed. Applicants must hold an EU or UK passport, a full driving license, and ideally have access to a car.

Candidates should also demonstrate an open and forward-thinking mindset, particularly regarding the adoption of emerging technologies, including the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and service delivery.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Fulfil the tasks of the designated role of DPO as defined by Article 39 of the GDPR
  • Inform and advise organisations of their obligations.
  • Implement the DPO Centre’s established processes and practices.
  • Create and implement strategies to ensure compliance with data protections laws.
  • Perform DPIAs, PIAs, LIAs and TIAs and build/maintain the client’s RoPA.
  • Prepare recommendation reports and corresponding Schedule of Works
  • Devise, facilitate and deliver training and awareness workshops.
  • Support the client in responding to individuals’ rights requests.
  • Consistently inform and advise the client on governance, accountability, and risk
  • Keep up to date with changes in data protection law and regulations.
  • Actively contribute to building the overall knowledge base of the DPO Centre’s team

Skills And Experience

Education and experience

  • Previous roles as a Data Protection Officer or European equivalent
  • Ideally, a degree or high-level qualification in law
  • One or more data protection qualifications such as CIPP/E etc
  • Experience across three or more industry sectors or extensive experience in a healthcare, financial services, or multi-nationals
  • Fluent in English and at least one of German, French or Spanish (fluency includes written and spoken)

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, trust, and credibility

Required Skills

  • An in-depth knowledge of data protection laws and their regulators within the UK and Europe
  • Fluent in English
  • Written and spoken fluency in another EU language.
  • An ability to think strategically, assess risks and explain the potential consequences.
  • Experience in drafting policies, interpreting legal contracts and report writing.
  • Confident presentation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Sufficient commercial awareness to understand, manage and navigate client expectations
  • Project management skills to successfully manage a portfolio of clients with competing priorities
  • Excellent communicator at all levels, ability to deliver a clear message to a wide variety of audiences
  • Ability to challenge the status quo in a constructive manner

Advantageous Skills

  • Knowledge of IT and cyber security and ISO certifications
  • Knowledge of other worldwide data protection laws
  • Negotiation skills to ensure the most appropriate, rather than ‘easy’, course of action is taken
  • Experience in identifying and building B2B business relationships to maximise commercial opportunities
