Data Protection Advisor

Location: Bristol (Hybrid – 1 day per week in–office)
Type: Fixed–Term Contract (6 months)
Salary: GBP55,000 – GBP60,000 + Bonus + Benefits

We're recruiting a Data Protection Advisor for a 6–month fixed–term contract with a leading organisation undergoing a major transformation. You'll play a central role in ensuring compliance across newly created platforms, driving data protection best practices, and helping the business strengthen its privacy maturity across UK and international operations.

This role offers excellent scope for cross–functional collaboration, advisory input, and ownership of critical processes during an exciting time of organisational growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert advice across the business on UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and relevant legislation
  • Lead and support investigations and reporting of breaches and incidents
  • Manage data subject rights requests, complaints, and DPIAs with confidence and accuracy
  • Collaborate on communications, training, and awareness programmes to embed a privacy–first culture
  • Maintain and update Records of Processing Activity and the internal Data Protection Toolkit
  • Work across teams to ensure data protection by design is built into project development and system processes
  • Deliver process improvements and support effectiveness audit readiness

Ideal Experience:

  • Accredited qualification in data protection (eg BCS, IAPP)
  • 3+ years working in a privacy or compliance–focused role
  • Confident managing complex and sensitive data protection issues across fast–paced environments
  • Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, DP Act 2018, and international frameworks
  • Experience working on transformation or large–scale organisational projects (international exposure a plus)
  • Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a proactive mindset
