Job summary

A public sector organization in Greater London is looking for an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO). The DPO will ensure compliance with data protection laws, provide expert advice, and develop policies for the Council and schools. Ideal candidates will have over 3 years of experience in data protection and relevant qualifications. This full-time role offers a commitment of 35 hours a week and includes standard CRB/DBS checks.

  • This is an opportunity for a talented and ambitious professional Data Protection Officer (DPO) to join our Law and Governance Service. The DPO role is critical in delivering advice with legally binding consequences to the council and schools and guiding the organization's strategy for fostering a data protection culture.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
  • Responsible for the delivery of the legally mandated role of Data Protection Officer for the Council and schools, including registration with the Information Commissioners Office.
  • Provide technically proficient advice with legally binding consequences and ongoing professional development in data management.
  • Accountability for the data policies within the Council and Schools, ensuring regular reviews and compliance with data protection laws.
  • Provide day-to-day advice to ensure compliance with data protection laws.
Essential Experience Required
  • At least 3 years of experience in delivering data protection services, including drafting and updating policies and procedures, assessment of DPIA’s, Data Sharing Agreements, Data Processing Agreements, and handling data breaches.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing advice and guidance at the highest levels of organizations within the business context of local government and education.
  • Experience in developing data protection training and delivering training.
  • Qualification in data protection, information security, law, or equivalent training and/or certification.
Additional information to note
  • Working hours: 35 hours per week
  • Standard CRB/DBS is required for the role
