Job description

Our client is recruiting for a Data Protection & Commercial Counsel - this is a critical position that entails providing robust legal support to a higher education institution in London, with a focus on data protection and related regulatory & commercial matters.

Description

The Data Protection & Commercial Counsel will be an integral member of the Legal team. They will be responsible for advising on complex contractual privacy matters as well as providing some commercial drafting support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provision of comprehensive advice on privacy and data protection issues
  • Reviewing, drafting & negotiating DPAs and advising commercial and non-commercial stakeholders on potential impacts
  • Horizon scanning for changes and updates in the regulatory landscape
  • Liaising with the DPO and data protection team on complex operational escalations
  • Drafting, reviewing & negotiating general commercial contracts including: IT, SaaS, IP and consultancy agreements as required
  • Manage privacy and data protection training for staff
  • Represent the organisation in any privacy-related inquiries or investigations

Profile

A successful Data Protection & Commercial Counsel we be a qualified solicitor in England & Wales and hold an up to date practising certificate:

In addition you will ideally have:

  • c4 years PQE*
  • Experience in a similar role within the not-for-profit sector
  • Knowledge of data protection advisory
  • Strong commercial contract drafting skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in managing complex projects
