Job summary

XPS Group in Manchester is seeking a Data Programmer to design, build and maintain data systems powering analytics. You will work with SQL, ETL processes and Azure Data Factory to deliver reliable data solutions for pension administration clients.

The role sits in IST and involves collaboration with analysts and IT teams, producing documentation, testing strategies, and supporting data services across projects. A strong SQL background and experience with data modelling are required.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in SQL with complex joins, subqueries and window functions.
• Familiarity with ETL tools or frameworks.
• Understanding of relational database concepts and data modelling.
• Ability to work with large datasets and optimise query performance.
• Excellent organisational and planning skills.
• Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team and influence decisions.
• Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to create and manage documentation.
• Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, ITIL).

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimise, and maintain SQL scripts for ETL processes.
• Meet business requirements and client implementation needs.
• Collaborate with internal/external colleagues to expand knowledge.
• Analyse data queries to ensure correctness across workstreams.
• Gather requirements and document lifecycle of projects.
• Translate client requirements into formal documentation/specifications.
• Create testing strategies and perform thorough testing.
• Document and communicate changes to core products/processes.
• Provide guidance within the Data Services team and mentor colleagues.
• Support the Implementations Manager in driving best practices.
