About the role:

As a Data Product Owner, you will manage Research business teams’ data needs related to publishing insights and decision intelligence, working with engineering teams to deliver those needs. You will facilitate conversations with stakeholders including analysts, subject matter experts (SMEs), product teams such as Wiley Online Library, Wiley Journal Insights, Research Exchange, colleagues in Wiley, Atypon, Hindawi to understand business needs. You will work directly with data engineering teams in Sri Lanka, the US, managing priorities and requirements. You will collaborate with external vendors and solutions providers to enhance data pipelines. The Data Product Owner will generate and elaborate on business requirements, set priorities within the Research Data Product Roadmap, and track work through to completion, ensuring the delivery of business benefits from publishing data.

You will own the roadmap for areas of publishing data such as submissions, peer review, bibliometrics, sales, usage data, and master data. You will work closely with analytics product owners and business consumers, providing updates on data trends, quality, and changes that may impact stakeholders.

How you will make an impact:
  • Develop subject matter expertise for publishing data, understanding its nuances and relation to customer and Wiley needs.
  • Drive the delivery of business value from publishing data.
  • Own the publishing data product backlog, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand needs, communicate roadmaps, and prioritize work.
  • Write clear epics, user stories, and requirements to describe business value and enable planning.
  • Ensure data quality and inform stakeholders of data trends and changes.
  • Promote governance, change management, and data cataloguing.
  • Manage publication data product releases in coordination with the Snr. Data Product Manager.
  • Collaborate with vendors and industry standards to improve data quality and stability.
Desired Skills:
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a technology product role with roadmap and backlog ownership.
  • Proven track record of delivering products/services meeting business needs.
  • Experience with product management techniques and Agile ceremonies.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with data handling and analytics.
  • Experience working with data engineering and architecture teams.
  • Successful partnership with analysts and engineers.
  • Knowledge of publishing business models and platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure.
  • Strong collaboration, diplomacy, and logical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global, matrix environment.
