A&O Shearman invites applications for a Data Privacy Lawyer to join the firm’s Data Privacy - Risk team in the Belfast office. The role focuses on maintaining a global privacy programme, advising on data protection issues, and supporting the Chief Privacy Officer on a broad, fast-paced agenda.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified lawyer with experience in data privacy and data handling, comfortable working with technology and stakeholders across the firm.

Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer with demonstrable experience advising on data privacy and data handling issues.
• An enthusiasm for technology and the ability to understand, explain and advise on technical processes using business-friendly language.
• Experience of dealing with and advising a wide range of business stakeholders in determining requirements and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the support and maintenance of the existing global programme of measures designed to comply with privacy laws globally.
• Help design, manage, support and deliver programmes of work designed to comply with changes to applicable data protection law.
• Work closely with a range of stakeholders on technology and data innovations, including AI governance, to ensure good data handling practices and privacy by design.
• Provide advice on data incident response.
• Respond to individual rights requests
• Advise colleagues on privacy and data protection issues and policies
• Conduct data privacy impact assessments for software, systems and processes
• Establish and maintain relationships with stakeholders to support privacy compliance
• Develop and deliver training and communications to embed changes
