Job summary

Somerset Libraries Development Team is seeking a Data and Performance Officer to support reporting, analytics, and performance monitoring. The role involves turning data into insights to shape library services and priorities.

You will develop tools and dashboards (Power BI, Excel) and provide guidance to staff, helping with funding bids and service improvements. Hybrid working with Taunton base and occasional travel within Somerset are included.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at C/Level 4.
  • Excellent working knowledge of IT systems to process data and extract information.
  • In depth experience and knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • The ability to identify links and patterns between data sets and confidently interpret and present data in creative and engaging ways.
  • A confident communicator, self-motivated and a good team player with the ability to multitask.

Responsibilities

  • Turn data into meaningful insights, helping shape library services and future priorities.
  • Develop and improve data collection tools, systems and dashboards that show impact of libraries.
  • Analyse performance information from multiple sources, producing reports and recommendations.
  • Provide training and guidance to library teams on data and performance tools.
  • Support business planning, funding bids and service improvements through evidence.
  • Work with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Create engaging reports and visual summaries that bring library performance to life.

Salary: Grade 13 ranging from £12,994 - £14,071 per annum.

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Part Time – 18.5 hours per week.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work within Somerset Libraries Development Team. The Development Team plays a lead role in ensuring the library service continues to evolve and delivers a range of innovative and exciting activity. Responsibilities across the team include Stock, Digital, Health and Wellbeing, External Funding and Marketing.

The Data and Performance Officer has a key role in supporting these functions through providing regular reports, analysing local and county wide trends, combining library usage data with both geographic and demographic data and developing tools for staff to review and use data in a meaningful way.

The role has a range of regular reporting duties and in addition you will work with the wider team to support customer engagement, provide evidence for external funding bids, identify trends in key areas like stock issues or visitor counts, and review web and social media data to contribute to our digital marketing strategy.

What You'll Bring
