Job summary

Citation is seeking a Data Migrations Engineer (3 Month Contract) to join the data team and oversee safe, accurate migrations across CRM, billing and platform systems. You will work with Salesforce, Chargebee and Dynamics, designing data mappings and validation logic before cutover, not during UAT.

The role emphasizes curiosity about how systems work, building end-to-end migration solutions, and handling edge cases like multiple active records and automated overwrites.

Qualifications

• Excellent writing and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
• Experience writing, troubleshooting, and debugging advanced SQL queries.
• Track record of understanding why two systems behave differently—validation logic, automation, calculated fields, relationship structures.
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly diagnosing data vs. mapping vs. automation issues.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools and data migration projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead structured data discovery and profiling at the start of every migration — surface quality, completeness and integrity issues and quantify remediation effort.
• Build detailed source-to-target data mappings grounded in system understanding — not just field lists, but underlying logic and constraints.
• Identify where source and target behave differently during discovery and design for it to avoid defects in testing.
• Build and maintain the ETL/ELT pipelines that move data between systems, including transformation logic for edge cases.
• Own reconciliation and validation between source and target post-migration, tracing discrepancies to root cause.
• Document migration logic, mapping decisions, and known system quirks for reuse across migrations.
• Work with data owners to drive cleanup of quality issues ahead of cutover.
• Support cutover planning and execution, including rollback considerations.
