About Us

The School of Life Course & Population Sciences is one of six Schools that make up the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King's College London. The Department of Twin Research & Genetic Epidemiology, one of five departments within the school, holds more than 30 years of data gathered from various sources on over 15,000 participants of its TwinsUK cohort. It is one of the most deeply characterised adult twin cohorts in the world, providing a rich platform for scientists to research health and ageing longitudinally. This role is part of the Data Team located in St. Thomas' Hospital. Hybrid working is available.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Data Manager to lead the management and security of our data. This role is responsible for provisioning of efficient data collection, curation, governance and access across various research studies, ensuring data integrity and compliance. This involves coordinating with internal teams (admin/clinic/lab/academic) and external collaborators for data acquisition.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health research or a related field. The role is responsible for overseeing data cleansing, harmonisation and curation and supporting study setup through questionnaire development and participant selection. This role will be skilled in using databases and related applications, and development of these is an advantage. The role also involves facilitating data linkage and NHS/CAG coordination, as well as representing the DTR and reporting to and from external data organisations.

Through own expertise and collaboration with developers and stakeholders, the role will enhance database functionality and maintain structured, high-quality research data for ongoing and future studies.

The role is ideal for a passionate data administrator/developer and is also a great opportunity for an academic researcher/epidemiologist who wishes to pursue a data management career.

This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31/12/2028.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

  1. Master's Degree or equivalent experience in health data related area
  2. Experience and knowledge of Health/Clinical/genomic Data Management and Electronic Data Capture Systems and statistical packages for data manipulation and reporting
  3. Knowledge of and experience in Relational Database Systems including linkage, query and report design
  4. Strong experience with cleaning and harmonising biological and health related data and attention to details
  5. Experience in presenting data related reports and dashboards to varied stakeholders
  6. Thorough experience of proactively working under own initiative with excellent coordination and organisational skills and to meet deadlines and targets
  7. Proven experience in data governance and data confidentiality issues and adhering to UK GDPR and DPA 2018
  8. Experience developing standard operation procedures

Desirable criteria

  1. Familiarity with clinical and genetic terminology and knowledge of data standards and methods
  2. Knowledge and experience of linkage and trusted research environments using healthcare data
  3. Previous experience working with epidemiological or national cohort data
  4. Experience and knowledge of Health/Clinical/genomic Data Management and Electronic Data Capture Systems and statistical packages using STATA, R or Python
  5. Knowledge of developing relational database systems including linkage, query and report design using SQL Server, MYSQL or similar platforms for data management
